Victim representation in Central Valley
State constitutional victim rights apply throughout the Central Valley even though court systems and public victim-services programs are administered locally.
Public victim advocates can provide valuable services at no charge, including support, case information, compensation assistance, referrals, and court accompaniment. Private counsel is a different service: the lawyer represents the victim as a client and can provide individualized legal advice and advocacy.

Local resources and statewide rights
Local agencies administer the criminal case, but the core rights described by Marsy's Law arise from California Constitution article I, section 28. A victim can use county victim services and still choose to retain private counsel.
